During the COVID-era remodel of the Chestnut Hill Developments Recreation Complex, the City quietly introduced universal (mixed-gender) change rooms. This was done with almost zero public consultation — reportedly driven by the input of just one person — and against the clear wishes of the vast majority of the community.In 2023, Councillor Lisa Robinson brought forward a common-sense motion: Every man, woman, boy, and girl must have the right to choose a biological sex-based change room (male or female) OR the universal/family option. The motion was blocked, despite massive public outcry. The result? A policy that puts privacy, safety, and basic human dignity at risk for everyone.Real incidents have already happened — including women and daughters seeing naked biological males, and men walking in on little girls sitting on the toilet. One such incident involving a man and a little girl triggered a full police investigation. These are not “phobias” — they are documented safety failures that never happened before the mixed change rooms.This is NOT inclusive. It is dangerous and unfair.
